Junior 7s Tournament
Last Friday night was the fifth and final week of our club-run Junior 7s Tournament held out at Palmerston.  Over the 5 weeks we had over 200 kids play in over 85 games of 7s, a total of over 20 hours of rugby.

On Friday we welcomed Mayor Ian Abbot to the games, as well as Bec Barrett and family (as representative for MLA for Blain Nathan Barrett) and Dan Bree (President of the NTRU).  Mayor Abbott was extremely impressed with the number of kids involved and the community service we provide for Palmerston in hosting such an event.

So a massive thankyou to all the players and their families along with the clubs who supported the tournament!  We hope to see you back next year.

As always, to make these events happen we rely on our many volunteers and to all of them, thank you very much.
Some special mentions though should be made of the following people, who without their work the event would not be what it was. In no particular order:

Our coaches and managers, for giving up their time to ensure that the kids have the opportunities to play rugby: Kevin, Darren, Hubertine (U7s), Gaz and Melanie (U9s), Brendan and (Kobey's Mum)(U11s), Tony, Stan, Tyrone and/or Ben (U13s & U15s).

The BBQ and drinks crew: Mal and Wendy, Pauline and Ned, Percy and Joanna, and Squirter - thanks for your time behind the BBQ

First Aid / Sports Medicine: thanks to Fiona Weaver (who was probably the most relieved person when the rain came and the field softened up a bit!).

Referees: Paddy Bree, Brock Evans, Anthony Smith, Robbie Taylor, Drew Weaver and Henry Jordon all from the club. Damien Tyson and Peter Egart from the NTRU also stepped up for a round.  Thanks to those who refereed every week and thanks to those who filled in when we were short, without you the games would not go on.

Time keeping and so much more: thanks to Selina Blyton who ran the admin desk and time-kept the whole tournament, as well as ran the administration requirements of the tournament. Everything went like clockwork meaning the tournament had a very professional edge to it.
